When a young woman arrives asking for help, she unsettles a group of older neighbours who have been living quietly in the past.

A first feature, made in the Irish midlands.

The film

Set in a secluded part of Ireland, Outer Heavens follows a group of neighbours whose settled routines are disturbed by a young woman’s arrival.

Making it

Made independently over three days with friends and close collaborators. Long takes, black-and-white images and a small number of locations became the language of the film.

My role

I wrote and directed the film, shaping the story and performances around the people and resources available.

Collaboration

Cinematography and editing by Conor English, with a cast including Ryan Hoey, Niamh Ryan, Calvin Doyle, Denis Haugh and Ali Heavey.
